Adventure: Hawks win the Cup!

THE BLACKHAWKS WON THE STANLEY CUP!!!
For those of you who don't know, the Stanley Cup is the championship in American Hockey. The Blackhawks are Chicago's hockey team. This is the second time in 4 years that they have won the cup.
The Blackhawks were playing the Boston Bruins and tonight they won against them in an amazing 18 second comeback with a final score of 3-2.

My Mom, Dad, and I went out to dinner at a BBQ place called Piggyback, to watch the game tonight, since in the US I'm not old enough to drink so we couldn't go to a bar. We watched the first two periods there and then came home to watch the third. It was so exciting, my heart was going a million miles an hour.
Since the teams were playing in Boston tonight, the Hawks didn't get a very big celebration with the crowd, but here in Chicago everyone is going crazy. Twitter and Facebook are filled with status, and all I can hear outside my window are fireworks. I've been following the team all season so this was an amazing night for me. I am just over the moon!

Here is a photo direct from the Blackhawks instagram showing the Captain Toews lifting the Stanley Cup

Any other readers Hawks fans? Let me know and we can celebrate together!

On an unrelated note, we got to 100 views today! Woohoo! More to celebrate! I know this seems like a small accomplishments, but it is the small things that add up. I hope you guys like what you see and continue to read, comment, and follow on bloglovin.

Adventure: To The Zoo We Go!

It was absolutely gorgeous here in Chicago today so my Mom and I decided to take a trip to our local zoo. I have not been to this zoo in several years so It was quite fun. I took some pictures to share with you guys. I am warning you know they were taken with my phone so they are horrible quality.

There were so many babies it was ridiculous! We saw baby Giraffes, Addax, Sloth Bear Cubs, and Chipmunks. The Giraffe baby is six months old and his name is Dave! There was also a giraffe born two days ago but he wasn't out yet. The Sloth Bear cubs were playing together and one of them is named Bhaloo like the bear from "Jungle Book". One of my best friends works at the zoo so I got a lot of inside information from her. 3 of the dolphins at the zoo are also pregnant at the moment, so I am going with my friend back to the zoo later this summer when they are born. The chipmunks were not an exhibit on purpose but instead they made their burrow in one of the front lawns!

I really enjoyed my adventure to the zoo, and I encourage everyone to visit theirs. While it may seem childish, we are all kids at heart.

On an unrelated note, the blog is growing daily! I would love to get even more comments and questions. You can leave these in the comments section or contact me through my new Contact Page! You can find the link as well in the side bar. Also, if you like what you read I would love if you would follow me on bloglovin. I am willing to follow back any blogs that follow this one. I am also looking into doing some fun reviews for you guys. This could be books, sunscreens, pain killers (because god knows with sports I am always using these), clothing, and other beauty products. I want this blog to be a place for people, especially girls and women to connect with someone who knows what they are going through.

And when we reach 50 bloglovin followers, I am going to hold a giveaway! So start spreading the word!

Beauty: "Alien" Perfume

Now I am no perfume expert, but I can tell you that "Alien" by Thierry Mugler is the greatest smelling perfume that I have ever encountered. I used to dance with a girl who used "Alien" and I always loved the smell. About two years ago, I was at Nordstroms when behold, I saw mountains of the gold and purple bottles. Of course I bought one! I have worn this perfume for the past two years and it still strikes me how lovely it smells. It seemed as though everyday at least one person stops me and tells me "Not to be creepy but you smell really good." After the 100th time it stopped being creepy and I resigned to the fact that I had the best smelling perfume in the world

According to the history on the Thierry Mugler Website it was inspired by the Myth of the Alien Sun Goddess, "Thierry Mugler leads us towards a femininity derived from a world infused with bliss and spirituality, at the crossroads between what is real and extraordinary." If that doesn't intrigue you, I don't know what will. The perfume has notes of Sambac Jasmin, Cashmeran, and white amber. The perfume is pure beauty right down to the core.

An important thing to remember about perfumes is that what works for one person may not work for another. Perfumes combine with the scent of the person to create the scent that everyone smells so it is important to try different perfumes to find the right one for you.

I would definitely recommend trying "Alien" or one of Thierry Muglers other perfumes such as "Angel" or "Womanity"

And If anybody has tried "Alien Aquachic" "Alien Essence Absolue" "Alien Elixir Prodige" "Alien Taste of Fragrance" "Alien Fragrance of Leather" or "Alien Liqueurs de Parfums" please let me know how you like them. I would love to try any of these but don't want to invest in big bottles until I hear some reviews.

Happy Smelling!
XOXO

DIY: Festival Kit

Hey lovelies!
I have a good friend whose birthday is coming up Monday which I didn't realize until yesterday! Eek! I  have a reputation among my friends of making the best gifts and I definitely wanted to live up to my expectations. But what to do? Well as I was wondering around Target it dawned on me, she is going to Lollapalooza! (Lolla is a huge music festival that occurs in Chicago every summer).

Anyways, I decided to make her the ultimate Lollapalooza Survival kit! This project is super fun, super easy, and can be adapted for any festival.

Festival Survival Kit:
This project is very much open to creativity. Pick things that are fun, funny, or you think your friend would like. I am going to format this how I made mine. most of my materials I got in the clearance or dollar section of the store. Nothing cost more than $3 and the whole thing cost me less than $20!

What You Need:
  • Fun Shirt
  • Personal Fan
  • 3-in-1 Eating Utensil
  • Small Water Gun
  • Package of Hair Ties
  • Glow Sticks
  • Poncho
  • Box to Hold everything
  • Water Bottle
  • Package of Bobby Pins
  • Package of Candy (Skittles, M&M, etc.)

Instructions:
For the Shirt:
I cut up my shirt to create bows in the back. You can leave the shirt as is, or personalize it. You can find many ideas of Pinterest. For example, this is similar to what I did: http://www.saifou.com/entry/20918.html

For the Box:
Package everything up in the Box. How you organize it is really up to you, just make sure you have a big enough box for all your items including the shirt. Then decorate the box. You can use pencils, markers, crayons, stickers, flowers, stencils, print things out, really anything you can imagine to decorate the box. Just make sure the box is fun and goes along with the festival theme. In the box have a list of the things included and what their purposes are. You can make this fun and goofy, don't be shy.

I really hope you guys have fun with this! Here are so photos of the things I included. I haven't finished my box yet so I can't show you:

And here is a shot of the shirt:

I hope you guys enjoy! Have fun!

Blog: the young and the braless

So I know I have blogged a lot these past few days but I had to let you guys now about this blog. It is run by two twins under the names chi & gi. They do a lot of fashion and photography posts. They also recently designed and created costumes for a play at their college. Super cool right!?
Here is their blog: http://theyoungandthebraless.blogspot.com/

They also started a new thing today called "saucey speaks" which you can to under the "saucey speaks" tab below the banner. Saucey came out with her first piece today and I have to say, I am in love. It was devastatingly truthful and beautifully written. Here is my favorite piece of it, though you will have to read the whole piece to understand it fully:

"Death is basically it after college. But fuck being scared shitless, there was the abortion, start-up and blood stained fraternity boy's bed sheet situations, so just put on your Jackie Os and deal with it like a Kennedy. " - Saucey

Beautiful, no? I'm so excited to read more! I would definitely recommend following them, I guarantee it will be worthwhile. I hope ya'll enjoy!

Designer: Rym Beydoun

Today I want to focus on a designer I recently discovered, Rym Beydoun, and her modesty collection.

Rym Beydoun is a graduate of Central Saint Martin. She is an up and coming designer. She is also a practicing Muslim which came into play in her latest collection "Modesty".

Here is a quote from the designer herself:
“Combining fashion and Islam has been really challenging especially since appeal is strongly linked with showing skin. I tried to show that modesty can be as appealing as nudity. The concept behind the collection was to push the traditional and religious limits of the veil in adapting it into a modern society. Being a Muslim myself with friends and family wearing the veil, I wanted to create something that would make muslim women more comfortable, confident and fashionable while still maintaining their religious identity and values. I aimed to change the scarf garment from its common conception to an empowering tool for women.”
— Rym Beydoun

Here are some photos from her "Modesty" showing:

http://dismagazine.com/blog/47193/rym-beydouns-experimental-modesty/

I really liked how she worked her personal religious views into her work because that is what art is really all about, showcasing your inner feels, thoughts, emotions, and points of view. I also applaud the modesty. While these outfits may be designed for the Islamic modesty standards, I as a Woman, and a Christian woman at that, can appreciate the modesty. While I do enjoy showing some mid-drift, cleavage, or skin once in a while I appreciate that modesty can be sexy as well. By not showing as much, you leave more to the imagination.

So let me know what you think! Is modest the new skimpy? Can modest be sexy too? And what do you think of Rym Beydoun's designs? Leave your opinions in the comments!

Clothes: Motel Rocks

Today I wanted to share one of my favorite companies with all of you lovely people.
The company is "Motel" or "Motel Rocks." It is a London based company that makes clothing and accessories. While they are based in London, they do sell internationally through their website.

Here is the Website: http://www.motelrocks.com/shop/

I love the way they push the boundaries. They play with vintage styles, country styles, hard-core rock styles, and beyond. A personal favorite right now is the polka dot pattern. I love the versatility of polka dots and how timeless they are.

The last time I wore Motel was for my "King of Hearts" dance. I wore one of their dresses. It was a tight place dress with a sweetheart neckline. The back was very low and then had four different colored stripes going across it. It was fun, flirty, and I got tons of compliments.

One thing you will notice looking around the website is the price of these clothes. But don't worry, I'm here to save the day! If you enter the code "emilydolphin266" you will get 20% of your order! How sweet is that! And this is not a one time deal, if you like what you see and continue to place orders, every time you will get at least 20% off, sometimes they even pump it up to 25% or 30%.

I do hope you enjoy your new clothes. Keep an eye out for a new DIY and adventure article coming soon!

So, my best friend just moved from Chicago, my home town, to Canada. It was obviously tough for her as well as her friends and family. Now that she is getting settled, she has set up a blog so that those of us in the Windy City and beyond can hear about her adventures in her new home. Needless to say, she had inspired me to begin my own blog to explore the adventures that occur around me in everyday life. These could be personal stories, stores I'm obsessed with, DIY projects I have tried, travel diary entries, or random mumblings. I guess we will have to see. Well thanks for joining me on this adventure and I hope you enjoy the ride
